The South West Coast path

Gimble Mill is the perfect base camp for hill-walkers, hikers and ramblers. We have a footpath that passes through the farm and are featured on a number of walking routes published on the internet and in books, including the Copper Trail, a 60 mile circular walk around the whole of the moor. The new "right to roam" laws have also opened up much of the moor that wasn't previously available to explore. Walking on Bodmin Moor offers a mix of stunning natural granite features such as the unusual Cheesewring, as well as numerous prehistoric standing stones and more recent Cornish mining remains. Just 1km from the B&B is the highest village in Cornwall - Minions with nearby 3 stone circles, the Hurlers. You can see the world heritage site mining remains and take a walk upto the Cheese Ring. There are also numerous tors and once your at the top offer spectacular views all the way to the coast. The highest Tors on Bodmin include Rough Tor at 1,311 feet and Brown Willy at 1,375 feet. Both are easily walked to from Bolventor near theJamaica Inn (about 5km from Gimble Mill). Alternatively you can visit Dozmary Pool, supposed resting place for the Lady of the Lake and Arthur's swod Excalibur! Golitha Falls to the south of Gimble Mill is one of the most beautiful woodland walks in the moors. Golitha is an idyllic woodland walk and nature reserve. Highly recommended, it's a particularly famous spot on the south east edge of Bodmin Moor. The reserve consists of a steep sided valley through which flows the River Fowey. The result is a series of stunning waterfall cascades.

Our local section of the South West Coast Path winds it's way around the South Cornwall Coast, taking in one of the most spectacular coastal stretches in the UK. The choice of coastal walking in Cornwall will amaze, offering dramatic cliff coast scenes and beaches such as Lantic bay and also picture postcard fishing villages such as Polperrow and Fowey.

Bodmin
The former County town of Cornwall, Bodmin has many interesting buildings, including the Turret Clock, marking the site of the ancient Butter Market, the Assize Hall, Shire House and the notorious Bodmin Gaol. Above the town on Bodmin Beacon stands the 144 ft obelisk to Lt.-Gen. Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert, descendant of the Elizabethan sailors Raleigh and Gilbert - commemorating his distinguished services in India.

Mevagissey
The fishing village of Mevagissey represents the very essence of a Cornwall, remaining true to its roots and embracing change only slowly. Mevagissey's complex of tiny streets twist and turn past tiny dwellings of cob and slate, but head inexorably for the twin harbours where you can watch the fishermen land their catch and mend their nets as they have done for time immemorial.

Penzance
Penzance, ancient market town and capital of the far west of Cornwall. Set in beautiful Mounts Bay - home to St. Michael's Mount and neighbouring nearby Newlyn and Mousehole, famous for its Christmas lights and fishing fleet. Located just 10 miles from Land's End, an area of Celtic culture and outstanding natural beauty surrounds the town. Mounts Bay, with Penzance at its centre, has recently been described as one of the 'Most Beautiful Bays in the World'. The great sweep of land surrounding this expanse of the sea - the first safe haven for sailors coming in from the Atlantic Ocean - runs from the Lizard Point to Lands End and includes both the resort town of Penzance and the smaller communities of Marazion, Newlyn and Mousehole with the dramatic sight of St. Michael's Mount dominating the view of the bay from almost any vantage point.
